The hardest part is starting

We know it. The hardest part in the morning is switching off the alarm clock and starting to move your body to get out of bed. Once you make the first move, it gets better.

Do you remember the first time you went to a networking event with your brand-new business cards? The first time you dropped your son off at the nursery?

We know that the first times are the hardest, but this knowledge doesn’t help.

What makes a difference is holding the space for yourself and your son no matter how upset you both are when you drop him off, waking up even when you’re tired, going to a networking event for the first time as a business owner even when you’re nervous.

Making the decision and doing it despite the discomfort is what it makes the difference.

This is one of the very few times when awareness on its own doesn’t work. Awareness means nothing if it doesn’t lead us to take action.

If you want to be ready to make your vision a reality, thinking, writing and talking about it is not enough. Storytelling doesn’t necessarily start with you at your keyboard but with the first uncomfortable steps that set you into motion towards the place you want to get to.
