Sorry, what was your business about?

This is probably the most frightening question that you can get from someone that you meet at a networking event, business meeting, or conference for the second time.

This question implies that what you do is something alien to the speaker, something that he can’t relate to, something that doesn’t need to be remembered or noticed.

The other day I was on the train writing in a notebook, scribbling furiously without looking around. The guard put his finger into my notebook and asked ‘Are you writing a story?’ I was so focused on my writing that he had to ask the question twice.

How can your posture reveal what you do in such a way that you don’t need to speak? How can you act in such a way that you’re already telling your story?
